Best Practices, Associations, Trade Organizations, Compliance & Code will be added
here. First look to Governmental Hygenists - Best Recommended Practices, then FDA, USDA
and other agencies applicable to your lab, then for lab furniture their trade groups.
here is a linke to Scientific Equipment & Furniture Association best information:
http://www.sefalabfurn.com/forms/Sefa-8.pdf
There are other documents, but by requiring the following "compliance with recommended SEFA
practices and their installation methods" it will provide you with some teeth if you should
need to apply pressure to achieve compliance or correct problems. However, the fact that it
is identified as a laboratory project puts some of this upon the bidder whether or not the
bidder or supplier understand the implications of bidding on a laboratory project. I would
also ask, why not taking a project as a design-build and acts as the contracting firm,
contract with others if your firm does not have the capability to be the manager, but this
will provide more control of quality and end result. We have been involved with several very
successful owner(partnering) projects. It helps to have everything in writing and use a
simple partnering agreement and determine change order issues and markup and labor cost.
A budget and then a time and material job (T/M) can be good for you and the trades doing the
actual work. BE SURE YOU CHECK MANY REFERENCES AND PULL A RECORDS CHECK BEFORE DOING THIS
WITH ANY FIRM.
Product Technical Consulting - developement, and problem resolution with quality issues,
using technologies to improve, combine or create new composition.
Owner Advocate Services - includes identification of not in compliance issues, not to
industry standards and functional issues, some quality standard issues, performance limitations,
options to resolve of in place or substandard issues. Also, cost saving and shifting of error
back upon the parties which were in control of outcome or problems.
